Fabric Feature - January 2020

We don’t know about you, but for the Curated Quilts team, the short days and long nights of winter have arrived. Is it still January? Will the spring ever come again? If you’re fighting the mid-winter blues, we have a solution to help get you through the next few weeks… new fabric releases and QuiltCon 2020 in Austin. If you’re going, we hope you’ll stop by our booth to say hi. Now for a few of the delicious fabrics recently released or coming very soon:

Moongate by Christina Cameli for Maywood Studio

Moongate

Christina Cameli’s premier fabric line for Maywood Studio coming out in February will not disappoint. The collection has a bit of whimsy without giving up an air of sophistication. Moongate was inspired by Christina’s fascination with outer space and her desire as an adolescent to become an astronaut.

The collection includes eight prints called ‘Horizon Ombres’ that feature one of Christina’s signature free-motion quilting designs. The ‘Horizon Ombres’ are out of this world with their vibrant colors and will work great as blenders.

Moongate arrives in stores in February 2020

Just Red by Brigitte Heitland of Zen Chic for Moda

Just Red

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Just Red is not overtly Valentine’s Day-themed, but with color descriptions like lipstick, Merlot, and cayenne, Heitland’s moody reds and soft pinks are the perfect fabrics to love on.

Just Red has large scale floral prints, medium scale geometric prints, and small-scale blenders. Included in the Just Red collection are seven new colors to Zen Chic’s signature ‘Spotted’ fabrics.

Just Red is available now in quilt stores.

Shibori Dye by Kim Eichler-Messmer for Paintbrush Studio Fabrics

Shibori Dye

Fiber artist and quilt designer Kim Eichler-Messmer brings Japanese traditions into the modern age with Shibori Dye. ‘Shibori’ is the Japanese word for different methods of creating patterns on cloth by shaping and securing fabric before dyeing it in indigo.

This collection pairs the aesthetic of the Shibori dyeing with modern fabric printing. The prints have an organic, almost textured look to them, but they are printed on 100% quilting cotton.

Shibori Dye arrives in stores in early February 2020.

  • I absolutely love fabrics! I have sewn mainly with a mix of prints and solids. I am finding myself drawn to more solids lately, which honestly is a bit of a shocker to me. I do not see me only using solids as there as so many gorgeous prints, but I do love mixing them together and letting the solids give your eyes a place to rest. In other words…I love them ALL!

  • I have been working with solids a lot more lately – I just organized all my solids and was surprised that they filled 2 1/2 wire storage drawers! I really enjoy the way that solids show the quilting too. I don’t know that I could ever convert to only solids like several of my friends have, because I love prints too much! But I sure am having fun making some all solid, more modern quilts!

  • I sure hope we’ll see a QuiltCon vendor selling Moongate! I need that one by the yard.
